Albert and Arthella Walker

Albert Walker

Albert is one of our faithful Walker Reunion Committee members who began working with the reunion about 16+ years ago and been an active worker ever since then.

Albert E. Walker was born to David (Good Deal) and Ida Walker back on March 12, 1933 in a small community called Paradise outside of Gilmer. He is the seventh of nine children.

Albert’s education began in the New Mountain community where he graduated from high school in 1951 as valedictorian and his honors included, captain of basketball team and 1949-51 he received an award for 100 yard dash, 220 year relay. He finished from Texas College located in Tyler, Texas with a Physical Education major.

Albert loved and still loves his sports. There has been an occasion or two where he is still known to challenge young people by racing them down the street! He always pushes our young people to get an education. He coined the phrase, “You’re too intelligent, you’ve been to school!”

After school, Albert matriculated to the Dallas area and wooed his longtime childhood sweetheart, Arthella DeLois Nelson into marrying him. As of this year, 2004 they’ve shared each others lives for 47 years. They are the proud parents of three children, Jacqueline (Walker) Jernigan, Wanda (Walker) Osborne, and Albert E. Walker, Jr. (deceased). They are also proud grandparents of three grandchildren: James-Albert Reginald Osborne (JARO), Regina Lynnette Osborne (Gina), & Broderick Mellon Jernigan (Ricky).

One of the greatest events in Albert’s life besides his family life is his relationship he has with God. He was granted the privilege of being selected as one of the elders of the Cedar Crest Church of Christ located in Dallas back in 1997 and is still currently serving that congregation. Besides having the opportunity to enjoy retirement, he doesn’t stay at home. He’s always on the go day and night.

He is a true Walker and loves his immediate family and the whole Walker Family clan.
