John Henry Walker

John Walker was the seventh child born to Johnny & Emma Walker. He was born on February 22, 1914 in Harrison County, TX.

Even though his education was limited to the sixth grade, he still was quite a smart man. Math and numbers seemed to be an area that came very easy for him. His reading ability often amazed me.

On February 13, 1987 he united in marriage with Roberta Wesley and to this union four children were born: Sherley Ray, Zethalene preceded him in death), John Hue, and Linda.

He worked for Lone Star Steel and various jobs before relocating to Houston, TX in 1965. He retired in 1983 but continued to garden until his health failed.

Gardening and baseball were his two great loves. He took a lot of pride in his garden and often spoke of what he could do with the soil. He also looked forward to the baseball season and critiqued the teams better than any scout could have done.

He wasn't a perfect man. His imperfections helped mold our lives because underneath was a kind and gentle man who really cared about his family. Through him, we learned the meaning of forgiveness.

He has seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

He passed on January 19, 2001 having never lost his sense of humor. His favorite saying was "If Jack couldn't go, he'd send a man and that man was John Walker."
